Epionce, (a company who’s skin care products we stock) sent a flier this month about Men’s Skin. They had some really good tips that I’m going to pass along to you.
Before we get into them, those of you who are my clients know that the metabolism of the epidermis is regulated by Estrogen. The differences in male skin vary slightly due to hormonal differences. Men have higher androgenic activity, which contributes to more active sebaceous glands. (The skin is oilier). Additionally adult males shave daily which helps cell turnover and results in more depth (collagen) in their skin, but may cause chronic inflammation.
Because of the higher amounts of androgen hormone, men experience severe grades of acne. Also males have problem skin in their teens and generally clear by their 20’s, while women may experience acne well into adulthood. Middle-aged Caucasian men experience the majority of melanoma cancer.
Finally, here are some tips for the ‘skincare resistant’ males in your life:
First tip: Keep skin care ‘routines’ simple, purchase products in tubes rather than jars, and get help selecting products geared towards the challenges male skin presents.
Second tip: Start your teenaged son on a consistent routine. Start with a cleanser and toner and encourage SPF every morning regardless of the weather. If he is experiencing acne, invest in ‘no frills’ facial treatments designed to clean out the pores. (We have the Detox Pore Treatment)
Third tip: Put a bottle of cleanser in the shower rather than a bar of soap. You are delivering a little subliminal suggesting. Make it a gel-type cleanser, because men tend to prefer them.
Fourth tip: Keep a tube of sunscreen available in the bathroom plus pack another in his sports bag. The Epionce SPF 50 is weightless, doesn’t move and sting the eyes when perspiring and won’t clog pores. This is my first sunscreen pick for any active person.
We have 2 YonKa European-style Facial Treatments for Men available. The Skin Fit Facial and The Age Defense Facial both use products formulated by YonKa specifically for the hormonal needs of men’s skin.
